Remembering Joe Killian

Stan KillianBlog

It was 2 years ago around this time that I lost my father, Joe Killian.  He was 86 years old and was a great inspiration to me.  His love of music and performing gave me a great sense of joy growing up.  In fact,  it was his mission to make everyone happy through music.  That’s a valuable lesson that I carry to this day. Here’s a tune from the past that I’d like to share with everyone. “Blues with Jimmy” Jimmy Ford, alto saxophone; Joe Killian, Hammond organ; Ben Turner, drums Recorded in Houston, TX 1965

Jazz Guitar Concert Series with Victor Baker

Over the past couple of years, I’ve been playing quite a bit with guitarist, composer and luthier,  Victor Baker.  He has a treasure trove of original compositions which are challenging to play, but fun and enjoyable to listen to. Here’s a video of a concert broadcasted last month from his guitar shop in Astoria, Queens.  He has a monthly series which he broadcasts live on his website at http://www.victorbakerguitars.com/NYCLuthier/ Stan Killian, tenor sax; Victor Baker, guitar and compositions; Andrew Freedman, keys; Trifon Dimitriov, bass; Brian Fischler, drums

Last month, I had the pleasure of recording with Max Marshall, a newcomer to the New York jazz scene.  Originally from Chicago, but based now in Brooklyn, Max writes great tunes and can really play as you will hear on these three originals he penned. Max Marshall Fender Rhodes, Marcos Varela bass and Shinnosuke Takahashi drums. Recorded by Shinnosuke Takahashi
