Friends,
I’m excited to be returning to Denver this week to perform at the very fine Nocturne Jazz and Supper Club. This Friday night, September 16, I’ll be joined by two outstanding musicians, Jeff Jenkins, piano and Mark Diamond, bass. We play the late set starting at around 11 p.m.
Nocturne Jazz and Supper Club is located at 1330 27TH STREET – 80205
Here’s a quick look at their bios:
Jeff Jenkins has released four CD’s in the last 15 years. The most recent on Capri Records entitled “Cique”, is an eclectic exciting blend of jazz and funk. He has appeared with many jazz greats in that amount of time as well, including: Freddie Hubbard, Eddie Harris, Clark Terry, Dakota Staton, Frank Morgan, Marlena Shaw, David Fathead Newman, Teddy Edwards, the Count Basie Orchestra, The New York Voices, Bobby Hutcherson, Nelson Rangell, Renee Marie, John Abercrombie, and Richie Cole.
He attended the University of North Texas, where he led his own groups. After college he moved to New York where he studied with the likes of Richie Beirach, Kenny Barron, and Fred Hersch, while working on Broadway, and in the clubs.
When not playing the piano, Jeff is busy mixing and producing in his recording studio Mile High Music.
Currently he is living in Denver, where he is busy playing clubs and concerts, writing and producing, and being a dad to his son Ellington.
Mark Diamond’s hard-grooving acoustic bass sound was birthed in the New York area, where he learned to play many musical styles. His professional career started in New Jersey in the early “70’s” at Family & Friends with Jeff Kohnberg and Lisa Cerasia. In 1980 he moved to Colorado with the band Arabesque and has since been a sought after sideman on over 100 albums, including Grammy award winner Tim O’Brien, Tim and Mollie O’Brien, Sally Taylor, (daughter of James and Carly), James Van Buren with Richie Cole, Keith Oxman, Mary Flower, and Mary Ann Moore. He has played for President Bill Clinton and other luminaries over the years. Mark has toured Europe, and regularly appears at festivals and clubs across the country. He has performed with such legendary performers as Earl Klugh, Nnenna Freelon, Spike Robinson, Richie Cole, James Moody, Ernestine Anderson, Ben Sidran, Peter Rowan, Kenny Loggins, New Orleans piano sensation Henry Butler, Fred Wesley (of the James Brown funky horn section), Buddy Tate, (of the original Count Basie Band), Bruno Carr ( the drummer for Ray Charles, Herbie Mann, and many jazz greats), blues men Eddie Kirkland and Mark Hummel, and a couple of great New York based jazz vocalists Allan Harris and Tom Lellis. Mark has opened shows for B.B. King, Kenny Rogers, Wilson Pickett, Koko Taylor, and Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, to name a few. He is a reliable, personable, talented musician who has dedicated his life to bringing people top quality music in every setting imaginable.
